Come, Come Whoever You Are
& Whoever You’ve Lost…
Like love, grief is unique to each relationship, and grief cries out to be shared.
Grief needs someone to walk along side, to listen, to witness, to affirm the pain of loss and the renewal of life.
For many family and friends, for whatever reason, simply aren’t able to offer that kind of support.
Support groups have long been seen as one of the most effective things you can do when you’ve experienced a profound loss, but I keep hearing from people who are alone and unable to find a group that feels right to them.
• For some there are no local groups. They live in a rural area and even if there is a group they already know everyone in it and that just feels creepy.
• Then there are some who aren’t able to get to a group. Maybe they can’t drive or they don’t want to go out at night.
• For others it may just feel like too much of an effort to get there.
• And for still others, they don’t quite see the point.
Nothing anyone says or does can make the pain go away. That’s true, nothing will take the pain away, but being with others who really get what you’re going through makes that pain just a little bit easier to bear.
So for those reasons and many others, a “Survive Your Grief Support Group” is meeting every other Wednesday evening via telephone conference call.
Sounds a bit strange, but unlike online forums where people post and then disappear, where what you share can become public, a telephone group can provide you with a safe place where what you share never, ever goes beyond the group.
Coming together with others who have experienced similar losses brings comfort in a way that nothing else can.
I hope you will join us.
